Our friends at Metre Market, Cookham Dean took on a challenge supporting Chemogiftbags this October – Breast Cancer Awareness Month – cycling from the market’s home, Cookham Dean Village Hall to Brighton Pier!
During the market on Friday October 25th an inspirational group of stallholders and customers accepted the challenge to cycle the 111km on a static bike during the 4.5 hours the market is open. With the bike set up on stage, their course and progress projected onto the large screen behind them and a buzzing hall of stall holders and customers the intrepid team of cyclists took it in turns to cover the distance. It was a delight for those of us that could attend, to spend the morning cheering the many participants on, chatting to the stallholders and sampling some of their gorgeous produce.
With the whole hall behind them and rounds of applause for every rider an amazing £1,770 was raised for Chemogiftbags and we couldn’t be more thrilled or thankful.
A special shout out is also due to Cookham Waste for helping with the logistics to make the event happen – thank-you too!
All at Chemogiftbags send their immense thanks for everyone’s efforts, the money raised will make a significant difference across the Thames Valley and further help us achieve our ambition of a “hug in a bag” for every breast cancer patient across the region undergoing chemotherapy.
